AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi ‘Wish You Were Here’ Helmet

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi 'Wish You Were Here' Helmet

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi 'Wish You Were Here' Helmet

The is the AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi ‘Wish You Were Here’ Helmet, also known as the ‘Wish’ helmet, which has now been released in the Corsa range.

This is a very special Valentino Rossi helmet design and it was created as a tribute to his close friend, and fellow MotoGP racer, Marco Simoncelli who was killed during the Sepang MotoGP in 2011.

Rossi unveiled this helmet at the Misano round of the 2013 MotoGP season. Ever since MotoGP returned to Misano in 2008, Valentino Rossi has had a custom helmet design created to celebrate the fact that this is his home race….literally, as the town of Tavullia where he was born is only a few miles up the road from the circuit.

Bringing this helmet tribute to the Misano MotoGP also held a deeper significance – Simoncelli was also a local, he was born in Cattolica, a seaside town a few miles away from the circuit, and the Misano circuit was renamed the ‘Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli’ in 2011 as a tribute to him.

The helmet was design by Aldo Drudi and it features the album cover for Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish you Were Here’. The top of the helmet features the robot arms, and the rear of the helmet features the famous Pink Floyd photograph showing two suited men shaking hands, with one on fire. The sides of the helmet feature Rossi’ number ’46’ in yellow.

Aldo Drudi described the helmet: “this year’s idea is very simple: the album cover dominates the crown of the helmet. Two robotic hands unite the four elements in the background”.

Valentino Rossi Misano 2013

The ‘Wish You Were Here’ reference is a clear message from Rossi to his good friend Marco Simoncelli, and the lyrics in the song are also pertinent to men who make their living risking their lives going round the same tracks every year during the MotoGP season:

How I wish, how I wish you were here
We’re just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
And how we found
The same old fears
Wish you were here

Official description of the AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi ‘Wish’ helmet:
Valentino Rossi’s dedication is very closely linked to the musical meaning of the images on the helmet. Wish you were here is an album about the absence of man, sad and lost in what Gilmour and waters define as the “society of machines”. There is no doubt that the absence of Marco Simoncelli has been felt even more strongly at his “home track” which was in fact named after him a few months after his tragic death.

This limited edition reproduces the graphics On Valentino’s race helmet except for the text “wish you were here” and visor components / accessories. The M of the monster energy logo is shown with his stylised flames on the chin guard and sides of the helmet.

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi 'Wish You Were Here' Helmet

The Corsa model combines the performance of the Pista GP with the characteristics needed for use on the road.

The Corsa has a carbon-fibre/glass-fibre/aramid fibre ssl (super super Light) shell which was designed using fem techniques and Features EPS internal ducts to create a small, light helmet Which is both comfortable and extremely safe. The result is a helmet that is significantly superior to the limits set by ECE Standards and that weighs just 1350g* (+/- 50 g) in MS size (the weight refers to the ECE 2205 version) Unlike the Pista GP, the Corsa comes with a system for opening And closing the air vents which makes it a less extreme, more versatile helmet. The entire ventilation system was designed Using computational fluid dynamics studies and wind tunnel tests.

This helmet is highly efficient at removing heat and moisture from the rider’s head. Thanks to its large rear spoiler, the Corsa boasts unparalleled performance as in terms of aerodynamic penetration and high speed stability. Overall, the visor area is 9% bigger meaning a 15° improvement in vision which obviously enhances the active safety factor

The fit of the Corsa was developed using the new “human Engineering” process with which design starts from the surfaces in contact with the wearer’s head. The padding inside the helmet starts with a concave 3D structure that is pre-shaped to match the contours of the rider’s head and any surfaces in contact with the head are stitch-free.

The Lycra® and Shalimar® sanitised internal components are fully adjustable due to the fact that the position and depth of the crown pad can be modified as can the thickness of the cheek pads. The combination of these solutions, which are covered by Three separate patents, make the Corsa fit different shapes of skull as never before.

Extreme standards helmets is the name of the Revolutionary new range of AGV helmets which Includes the Corsa. It is based on the “human engineering” concept and applies to a new design process which starts from the components that are in direct contact with the head and gradually progresses to the outer shell. As a result, the structural shapes imitate the area of contact thus providing greater safety and smaller dimensions

AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi WTF helmet (Misano 2011)

AGV K3 Valentino Rossi WTF helmet (Misano 2011)

AGV K3 Valentino Rossi WTF helmet (Misano 2011)

AGV have reached for a classic and memorable Valentino Rossi helmet design for this new entry in their AGV K3 SV range.

This is the Valentino Rossi ‘WTF’ helmet design that was worn for the Misano 2011 MotoGP.

This helmet is also sometimes referred to as the ‘Comic’ or the ‘Expletive’ helmet.

The actual design was a humorous insight into Valentino Rossi’s mindset during his troubled seasons at Ducati. Rossi had failed to get the Ducati working as well as expected and his frustration with the bike was reflected in the design that he brought to his home round of Misano. The Sun and Moon motifs are relegated to the lower sides of the helmet, and the entire top of the helmet is used for a comic-style thought bubble that is filled with swear-words and exclamations. The rear of the helmet has the number 46 and an image of Rossi’s two Bulldogs.

On the day of the race Valentino was far more political and stated that the swear words were simply a reflection of what went through his mind during a race.

Whichever version of the meaning behind the design that you choose to believe, there is no denying that this is one of the most eye-catching and memorable of Valentino Rossi’s helmet designs.

Valentino Rossi Misano 2011

The Valentino Rossi WTF helmet was first released as a Limited Edition in the AGV GP-Tech range, but now it is available in the affordable AGV K3 SV range. The K3 SV range is one of AGV’s more affordable ranges and is optimized for everyday road use, despite the fact that it also has many premium features included that you get on the premium AGV ranges like the Pista GP.

The AGV K3 SV is latest upgrade to the previous K3 model, the main difference being that it comes with an internal sun visor (hence the ‘SV’ used in the name of the model). For an aggressive looking race replica helmt the K3 SV offers great airflow, a light mold, and a large field of vision.

Official description of the AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi WTF Misano helmet:

The AGV K3 SV Helmet builds on AGV’s extensive experience in designing the Pista GP and Corsa helmets as well as the legacy of the original K3 helmet. An aerodynamic shell shape is optimized for stability and aggressive aesthetics and features an integrated, compact rear spoiler to reduce turbulence. The narrow chin bar is streamlined to help the helmet cut through the wind at high speeds, further increasing stability.

The AGV K3 SV helmet incorporates a drop-down sun visor, making the helmet a tour de force, aggressive street or touring helmet. The K3 is also communication-ready and features speaker pocket cut outs to minimize discomfort caused by Bluetooth speakers pressing into your ears. The AGV K-3 SV Helmet is an excellent choice for any rider who values sophisticated, modern design in a safe and feature-rich package.

Features:

  • HIR-TH (High Resistance Thermoplastic Resin) shell construction
  • 2 shell sizes
  • 4 EPS sizes optimized using the FEM (Finite Elements Analysis) system
  • Ventilation system was designed and optimized in a wind tunnel

AGV GP-Tech Rossi Misano 2012 Boxer Helmet

AGV GP-Tech Valentino Rossi Boxer Helmet

AGV GP-Tech Valentino Rossi Boxer Helmet

This is the ‘Boxer’ helmet design that Valentino Rossi wore for the 2012 MotoGP round at Misano.

Misano is Rossi’s home race….literally, the town where was born is only a few miles away, and every year Rossi wears a custom helmet design to celebrate the occasion.

The 2012 MotoGP at Misano was a little different in the sense that Valentino Rossi didn’t have too much to celebrate – he was struggling to get to grips with the Ducati and his results in the season so far where way off what was expected. In an attempt to poke fun at the situation, the helmet for the 2012 Misano MotoGP featured a cartoon of Valentino as a boxer, all bruised and beaten up, hanging on to the ropes to keep himself up. The cartoon of Rossi features a speech bubble where he he is saying “Come Vado?”, which basically means “How am I doing?

The rear of the helmet features a cartoon of his Bulldogs, and the number 46.

This is the Valentino Rossi ‘Hand Print’ helmet design in the premium AGV Pista GP helmet range.

The design features the handprints of some of the key people in Valentino Rossi’s life – and the helmet is adorned with coloured handprints from Rossi’s team, his mechanics, and even includes paw prints from his two Bulldogs (Cesare and Cecilia) and his cat (Rossano) which can be seen on the rear of the helmet.

AGV K-3 Valentino Rossi Donkey Helmet

AGV K-3 Valentino Rossi Donkey Helmet

AGV K-3 Valentino Rossi Donkey Helmet

This is the AGV K-3 Valentino Rossi Donkey Helmet.

This is arguably one of Valentino Rossi’s most distinctive designs and it was created for the 2009 Misano MotoGP.

The helmet features a large donkey face, much like the donkey from Shrek, on the top of the helmet – echoing the ‘My Face‘ helmet design that Rossi wore for the 2008 Mugello MotoGP. The donkey face has a surprised expression, and if you look closer it also has Valentino’s eyes.

The rear of the helmet has the words ‘The Donkey’ in the usual lettering that is used for Rossi’s ‘The Doctor’ logo, and it also features the words ““EL SUMÈR” which basically means ‘The Donkey’ in the local dialect of his home town.

The helmet also features the usual logos of the Sun and Moon, the number ’46’, and the usual cartoon of Rossi’s bulldogs (who are wearing Donkey ears).

This design was chosen because Rossi had crashed out at the Indianapolis MotoGP in the previous round, so it was Rossi’s attempt at poking fun at himself for dropping 25 points.

rossi donkey

The ‘Donkey’ helmet was originally released as a limited edition helmet in the AGV GP-Tech range, but the good news is that it is now available in the much more affordable AGV K3 range – meaning this is a great way to get a Rossi race replica at a reasonable price.

Official description: AGV K3 Rossi Donkey helmet:
The K3 is AGV’s entry-level full face helmet and is designed to offer a rider on a budget the experience of owning a premium product. The K3 has a very high specification and is packed with features. The K3 uses AGV’s well proven HIR-TH (high resistant thermoplastic) resin shell construction, this shell is very strong and has excellent shock absorbing properties, however the manufacturing process is much quicker and simpler than an equivalent fibreglass shell.

This ultimately is reflected in the price of the helmet enabling riders on a budget to have an exceptionally safe and well made product at the fraction of the price you would expect to pay for a premium branded helmet.

Using AGV’s CAD design process the inner E.P.S. shell is made of different densities, to match the properties of the outer shell, giving the K3 excellent safety characteristics. Also the shape of the shell reflects the aerodynamic design of the range topping GP-Tech whilst being focused on the needs of the rider on the road; reduced wind noise and excellent stability at speed.

The K3 is equipped with twin front ram air intake vents, and an aerodynamic rear spoiler/extractor. There are also vents on the side to aid extraction of warm air from around the face area, and a large chin vent to aid visor de-misting.

The K3 is equipped with AGV’s street8 visor. The visor features the XQRS (extra quick release system) enabling visor changes in seconds without the need for tools. The street8 visor also features the NFS (no fog shield) anti fog coating, an anti scratch coating and offers 100% protection from UV light.

The K3 has a fully removable washable lining (both cheekpads and head lining). The liners are made from Dri-Lex, this liner has excellent wicking properties keeping the rider comfortable and dry, even in the extreme conditions. The linings are also treated with a hygienic antibacterial coating for prolonged freshness. The K3 is also fitted with a Micro-Metric buckle for ease of use with a range of adjustment. The K3 is also available in the K3 basic version, this model still features all the K3’s safety features without some of the luxury features to keep the cost incredibly low.

  • HIR-TH (high resistant thermoplastic) resin shell
  • Multi Density E.P.S. inner shell.
  • Dynamic ventilation system, aerodynamic front intakes and rear extractors
  • Fully removable, washable Dri-Lex lining with Sanitized antibacterial hygienic treatment. (K3 basic; Dry comfort liner replaces Dri-Lex)

AGV K3 Valentino Rossi ‘Wake Up’ Clock Helmet

AGV K3 Valentino Rossi 'Wake Up' Clock Helmet

AGV K3 Valentino Rossi 'Wake Up' Clock Helmet

This is the AGV K3 Valentino Rossi ‘Clock’ helmet, which is also sometimes called the ‘Wake up’, or ‘Time to wake up’ helmet.

The helmet design dates back to the 2010 Misano MotoGP race. Misano is a track where Valentino Rossi always creates a special one-off helmet design as it is effectively his home race (his home town of Tavullia is only a few miles away) and the fans go crazy for ‘The Doctor’ at Misano. On race weekend the track basically becomes a cathedral for Rossi fans with the colour yellow and the number 46 dominating most stands.

The ‘Wake Up’ helmet is one of the more distinctive Rossi helmet designs, featuring a giant clock face on the top of the helmet. The cartoon clock depicts the alarm going off, and also features cartoons of Rossi Bulldogs on the rear, with the number 46 at the back.

The ‘Clock’ design is a great throwback Rossi graphic design, and the design was supposed to be an attempt at poking fun at Rossi always being late for track sessions and team meetings. The clock and the alarm going off was supposed to symbolise that Rossi had better not be late for his home race. The Clock was also said to be a wake up call for Rossi who had missed a number of races in the 2010 season after breaking his leg at Mugello earlier in the year and needed to basically step up and start winning again.

Initially the ‘Clock / Wake Up’ helmet was only available as a limited edition in the AGV GP-Tech range (which is one of their premium ranges), but it is now available in the AGV K3 range. This is good news for consumers as it is a far more affordable range so it allows you get a decent priced AGV road / track helmet with some great Valentino Rossi graphics at a reasonable price.

About the AGV K3 Range:

The K3 range was released as AGV’s entry level helmet which has been designed for street and sports riding. It is a helmet that looks like a race helmet, and can be used on track days, or simply for day to day riding.

The K3 range takes a lot of features from the premium GP-Tech and AGV Pista ranges, and the thermoplastic resin shell, and the neutral oval head shape comes from the research and development work that went into created the GP-Tech and Pista. The aerodynamic shape is also influenced by AGV’s race research and testing – so this is helmet that is very at home on the track and feels very comfortable at high-speeds, cutting through the air.

Ventilation on the K3 is via the chin, with 4 exit points at the rear to keep the air flowing through while you ride.

The visor is anti-scratch and anti-fog enabled, and the internal cheek pads are Dry-Lex antibacterial antimicrobial that are easy to remove, but feel solid and secure when in place.

The AGV K3 is a very solid entry level helmet that really gives you value for money and does a great job in handing down some nice features that have originated from AGV’s premium level and high-end race helmets.

Official Description: The entry-level full face helmet from AGV offers exceptional value, great quality and features that you would expect from a helmet of a much higher price. As standard with all AGV’s the K3 features a fully removable washable lining, in Dry Comfort, with a sanitized treatment keeping your helmet fresh even with everyday use. Available in two versions the Rossi version has the addition of a rear spoiler/extractor and anti-fog visor.

  • HIR-TH (High Resistance Thermoplastic Resin) shell
  • ECE 2205 ACU GOLD
  • Ventilation system with 3 front vents, 2 lateral extractors (Rossi version includes rear spoiler/extractor)
