AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Mugello 2015 helmet (Limited Edition)

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Mugello 2015 helmet (Limited Edition)

True to form, Valentino Rossi unveiled a special helmet design on Saturday morning of his home Italian MotoGP at Mugello in 2015, and the design has now been made available from AGV.

This is the AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Mugello 2015 helmet, which is also sometimes known as the Valentino Rossi ‘Mirror’ helmet or the ‘Solar Power’ helmet, or even the ‘Yellow Energy’ helmet.

Rossi wore this helmet design for the 2015 Mugello MotoGP, and the chrome mirror finish on the top of the helmet makes it one of Rossi’s most striking helmet designs. This design is pretty simplistic when compared with previous designs that Valentino has worn for the Mugello MotoGP, but it is equally as striking as the ones that have gone before it in the past.

The helmet was designed by Aldo Drudi and it was supposed to represent how Rossi’s energy rises during the race weekend as he feeds of the energy of the fans, before it reaches its maximum level for race day.

The chin and cheeks of the helmet have a blue design that is supposed to represent a solar panel, and the rear of the helmet features six different energy levels, starting at ‘red’ for the first free practice session before rising all the way to green and eventually ‘yellow’, the highest level, for race day.

The right hand side of the helmet has the words ‘Energia Rinnovabile’, which basically means renewable energy, running round the rim of the visor, while the left hand side has the words ‘Yellow Energy’ in the same place. The top of the helmet had a mirror effect to reflect back and mirror all the fans the crowd into the hills of the Mugello circuit.

AGV released a statement about the design that reads:

During a typical race weekend, ‘The Doctor’s’ energy level steadily rises until attaining its peak in time for Sunday’s race. To represent this phenomenon, the rear of his 2015 Mugello helmet reflects six different energy levels, beginning with the bright red of the first free practice and advancing session by session to the maximum level—Vale’s signature yellow—just in time for him to line up on the starting grid.

AGV have released this stunning Valentino Rossi race replica in the Corsa range – the Corsa helmet range sits between the AGV K3 SV and the premium Pista GP range, making it more affordable than the Pista. The Corsa takes many of the premium features from the Pista, but it is more engineered for everyday street and road use than the Pista.

Official Description of the AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Mugello 2015 (Mirror) helmet:
The Corsa is a supersport helmet which combines the performance of the Pista GP with road-going characteristics such as adjustable ventilation and improved comfort without having to forget the performance standards of the GP version.

Fitted with a double-D retention system, the outer shell is made up of SSL layers (Aramid and glass fibers) and is available in four sizes. The design is intended to cut to the minimum any interference with the racing suit and protective hump and to optimize safety even at high speed.

The spoiler has been designed to detach from the helmet in the event of an accident to increase the passive safety of the helmet. The visor component area has been reduced by 71% compared with the GP Tech and this allows the space saved to be used to increase the thickness of the impact absorption material with all the safety benefits that brings. The visor can easily be removed as can the washable inner components. To provide improved comfort, the surfaces in direct contact with the head are seamless and the fit can be optimized with special additional padding to the cheeks and back of the neck. Designed to maximize comfort, ergonomics, safety and aerodynamics.

Made in Italy and protective of the environment: the Corsa is designed and made in Italy by highly qualified craftsmen using the very latest technology. These helmets are manufactured using the best technologies with great effort invested in protecting the environment. Waterjet technology is used to cut the carbon fiber shells, the painting system uses eco-compatible water-based paints and a dust suppression / residue treatment system is in operation throughout the entire factory.

Extreme Standards Helmets is the name of the revolutionary new range of AGV helmets which includes the Corsa. It is based on the “human engineering” concept and applies to a new design process which starts from the components that are in direct contact with the head and gradually progresses to the outer shell. As a result, the structural shapes imitate the area of contact, thus providing greater safety and smaller dimensions.

Features:

  • Shell: SSL (Super Super Light) in composite fiber, Aramid and carbon fiber.
  • Number of shells: 4 shell sizes.
  • Fabric: Breathable Lycra® lining and Shalimar® fabric with sanitizing treatment.
  • Liners: Fully removable and washable inner liners.

AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi Turtle Helmet

AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi Turtle Helmet

AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi Turtle Helmet

The is the AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi ‘turtle’ helmet replica. It is also known as the ‘Tartaruga’ helmet, and it was worn by Valentino for the 2013 Mugello MotoGP.

2013 was the year that Valentino returned to Yamaha after a couple of unsuccessful seasons at Ducati. Rossi’s return to Yamaha was celebrated by the factory, but his initial performances on the bike Yamaha M1 at the start of the season were not up to the standards of his teammate Jorge Lorenzo. Rossi was solid enough, but he was struggling to break into the top 3 on a regular basis.

When the Mugello round came up on the calendar Rossi decided to poke fun at his lack of speed compared with Lorenzo, Pedrosa, and Marquez with this turtle helmet design.

The helmet design was created by Aldo Drudi and features a giant cartoon turtle which is perched on the top of the helmet, with big cartoon eyes facing ahead, just above the visor. The rear of the helmet featured Rossi’s two bulldogs and the usual number 46. In addition to the insinuation that the turtle is a slow animal, the helmet also has four small people on the sides chasing each other. The figure at the back is yellow, so therefore indicates that it is Rossi, who is chasing to keep up with the Orange, Blue and Red figures – representing Lorenzo, Marquez, and Pedrosa.

The turtle also has a deeper meaning for Valentino Rossi and when he was a child racing Minimoto, Rossi used to have a stuffed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stuck to the top of his helmet, and his fascination with the animal also led to him having a tattoo of the turtle done on his hip.

This is a bright and fun Rossi race replica which was originally made available as a limited edition in the more expensive AGV Corsa range, which has since sold out in most places. So it is great that AGV have now added it to their much more affordable AGV K3 SV range, which makes it much more available to the average rider who wants a great looking race replica for everyday street use without breaking the bank account.

Official description of the AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi Turtle Helmet:
The AGV K3 SV is an exciting addition to the street/road collection of AGV helmets. This is a helmet to suit many riders: from the first time biker who wants a quality lid from day one, through to the more mature biker who is interested in balancing safety and performance on a budget. At such a sensible price, the AGV K3 SV really is an impressive lid.

The K-3 SV was developed from the experience AGV gained during the design process of the Pista GP and Corsa helmets. Thanks to the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEM), the technical department developed a benchmark product in terms of comfort, aerodynamics and safety. This helmet has a wide appeal and is suitable for young riders with a passion for racing as well as for more mature riders looking for comfort and high performance characteristics.

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Turtle helmet (Mugello 2013)

AGV Corsa Turtle Rossi Helmet

AGV Corsa Turtle Rossi Helmet

MotoGP might be unpredictable, but one thing can always be counted on – Valentino Rossi will bring a custom helmet design to the Mugello MotoGP round, and it is usually worth the wait.

Over the years we have seen designs as iconic as ‘My Face‘, the ‘Icon‘ helmet, and many more, and in 2013, Rossi chose a turtle design as the subject for his Mugello helmet.

This helmet is also known as the “Tartaruga Mugello 2013” helmet or just simply “Tartaruga”. This helmet is a strictly Limited Edition in the COrsa range, but it can also be picked up in the more affordable AGV K3 range.

Designed by Aldo Drudi, the helmet features a giant cartoon turtle sat on the top of the helmet, with its eyes facing forwards.

The turtle was significant for a number of reasons – it was the first racing mascot that Valentino adopted when he was racing minimotos as a child, and he raced with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toy stuck to the back of his helmet. Rossi also has a small turtle tattoo on his hip.

Valentino Rossi Mugello MotoGP 2013

The turtle design had another meaning, and it was intended as a joke to poke fun at the fact that Rossi had not been fast enough that season and that he was struggling to keep up with Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, and Marc Marquez. There is a reference to this on the side of the helmet where four stick figures can be seen running in a group, with the one at the back in yellow (Valentino Rossi) trying to catch up with the other three.

This helmet design is now available in the excellent AGV Corsa range. The Corsa is a premium helmet that sits between the AGV K3 range and the top level Pista GP helmet. Think of the AGV Corsa as a super-sport helmet that takes some of the best race inspired elements from the Pista GP and gives them more flexibility, and the comfort that is required for a road helmet.

AGV GP-Tech Valentino Rossi My Face Helmet

AGV GP-Tech Valentino Rossi My Face Helmet

AGV GP-Tech Valentino Rossi My Face Helmet

This is probably one of the most famous of all Valentino Rossi’s special helmet designs. It is often known as the ‘Face’, ‘My Face’, or ‘Valentino’s Face’ helmet, and it was created for the 2008 Mugello MotoGP.

The helmet features a photograph of Rossi’s shocked face on the top, which was supposed to give fans a taste of what it felt like racing around the Mugello circuit.

The rest of the helmet was decorated with clouds and featured the Sun and Moon motif on either side of the chin. The number ’46’ appears on the rear in large yellow numbers.

Amazingly AGV have made this very unique design available in their high end GP-Tech range (it also had a short run in the K3 range), its a Limited Edition, but it can still be picked up from most good online outlets.

Video of Valentino Rossi revealing his 2008 Mugello helmet design – ‘My Face’:

The GP-Tech was created with direct feedback from Valentino Rossi. Find out about the background story and the genesis of the AGV GP-Tech below:

The GP Tech is probably the most technologically advanced and innovative motorcycle race helmet available. Developed in conjunction with 9 times MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi, the brief was simple, to make the most advanced and safest race helmet possible.

The AGV GP-tech uses a Kevlar-Carbon shell that is incredibly effective at absorbing and dissipating the energy of an impact. It also enables the aerodynamic properties, required when riding at over 200mph, to be achieved by the shape of the shell.

Using a brand new C.A.D. design process the AGV engineers were able to achieve an incredible aerodynamically efficient shell shape without the need for any spoilers of fins to be attached to the shell, this makes GP TECH incredibly stable at high speed, dramatically reduces neck fatigue and makes the helmet quiet at very high speeds. GP TECH is fitted with the RACE-X flat racing visor system, featuring tear off posts for racing or track days (tear off are included in the box!) and the AGV No Fog Shield anti mist system.

Internally the GP TECH was designed to offer the best fit possible for racing and sports riding, the anatomical fit is designed around the shape of a human head, giving maximum comfort when riding and a consistent fit throughout the lifetime of the helmet. The cheekpads, head lining and neck roll are all removable, washable, and replaceable, and are lined with Coolmax with a sanitized anti-bacterial treatment. The Coolmax lining combined with the Integrated Ventilation System help keep GP TECH cool and comfortable even in the extreme conditions.

AGV K3 Valentino Rossi Icon Helmet

AGV K3 Valentino Rossi Icon Helmet

This is the AGV K3 Valentino Rossi Icon Helmet – a classic Valentino Rossi helmet design that dates back to 2002 when Rossi debuted it at the Mugello Grand Pix.

The design is a firm favorite among fans as it has a lot of history behind it. The core design is based on the helmet design that Graziano Rossi (Valentino’s father) used to race with – a white base with Green and Red markings around the sides and over the top. Valentino Rossi went a step further and customised his design with various icons that ran around teh base of the helmet. Each icon was an image of something that was indicative of Italian life, or were important to Rossi – the sea, pizza, etc….which turned this helmet design into a tribute to all Rossi held dear.

Valentino Rossi and his father Graziano
Valentino Rossi and his father Graziano

Unlike many of Rossi’s other helmet designs, this is quite an understated graphic design, and it looks clean and bold.

This design was out of circulation for a while, but it has been re-released in the affordable AGV K3 range, which is great news for bikers, as it means another classic Rossi helmet design is available at a reasonable price. The AGV K3 range is the entry level model race helmet that is slick and aggressive looking, but won’t break the bank.

Official Description:

The K-3 is one of the classical top selling helmets by AGV. Its design derives from the top of the range GP-Tech helmets, bringing most of the latest advanced features on this reasonably priced product. The race helmet-inspired-line maximizes the airflow minimizing noise levels, while the back spoiler assures stability at high speeds. The ventilation system features three frontal intakes, and six back and side extractors, while a chin wind protector avoid turbulences inside the helmet.

  • Number of shells: 1 shell size
