AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Winter Test helmet 2016 (The Snowman)

Valentino Rossi delighted fans once again in 2016 with his choice of helmet design for the Winter Test sessions. Valentino has a long history of using the MotoGP Winter Tests as a platform for showing off a new, and usually funny, helmet design.

At Sepang he debuted the ‘Snowman’ helmet – another winter themed design that was intended to poke fun at the paradox of MotoGP Winter testing taking place in tropical heat and humid conditions.

The helmet featured a large smiling snowman positioned directly on the front, wearing a yellow hat and scarf featuring the Yamaha logo.

Valentino Rossi Snowman

AGV are now releasing the Valentino Rossi winter test Snowman helmet as a limited edition in their premium Pista GP range.

Official Description of the AGV Pista Valentino Rossi Snowman helmet:
The Pista GP is the revolutionary new top of the range model. Developed in collaboration with Valentino Rossi and other riders from the World Championship Series, the Pista GP sets new standards in terms of protection and ergonomics and is the benchmark for professional race helmets. The carbon fibre shell and the EPS internal components were optimised using FEM techniques (Finite Elements Analysis) to obtain an extremely high performance helmet in terms of size, light weight and protection. The result is a helmet that is significantly superior than the limits set by ECE standards and that weighs just 1275 g (refers to MS size in the ECE 2205 version).

The entire ventilation system was designed using computational fluid dynamic modelling and wind tunnel tests. This helmet is highly efficient at removing heat and moisture from the rider’s head. Thanks to its large rear spoiler, the Pista GP boasts first class performance in terms of aerodynamic penetration and high speed stability. Overall, the visor aperture is 9% bigger meaning a 15° improvement in vision which obviously enhances the active safety factor.

The fit of the Pista GP was developed using “Human Engineering” whereby the design starts from the surfaces in contact with the wearer’s head. The inside of the helmet starts with a concave 3D structure that is pre-shaped to match the contours of the rider’s head and any surfaces in contact with the head are stitch-free. The Lycra® and Shalimar® sanitized internal components are fully adjustable due to the fact that the position and depth of the crown pad can be modified as can the thickness of the cheek pads. The combination of these solutions, which are covered by three separate patents, make the Pista GP fit the different cranial shapes as never before

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2015 Helmet (Limited Edition)

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2015 Helmet (Limited Edition)

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2015 Helmet (Limited Edition)

This is the AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2015 Helmet which is now available in Limited Edition numbers.

Valentino Rossi first used this helmet during the first MotoGP winter test session for 2015. The winter test took place in Sepang in the usual sweltering conditions, so Rossi chose to inject a bit of humor to the proceedings by using a helmet design based on a woolly Christmas hat. Rossi even brought a proper woolly winter hat (in the same design as his helmet) with him to Sepang.

Valentino Rossi winter hat

The helmet was designed by longtime Rossi helmet collaborator, Aldo Drudi, and it features the recognizable yellow and blue colour scheme of Valentino Rossi. The helmet is patterned with various Christmas and winter icons, all made to look like they were knitted around the helmet.

The crown of the helmet features a giant yellow snowflake, and further down the helmet are two further rows of blue ‘cable-knitted’ snowflakes. Inbetween these rows of knitted snowflakes are rows of knitted reindeer, and a row of knitted Christmas tress that run around the base of the helmet.

The rear sides of the helmet feature Rossi’s number 46……made to look like it has been knitted in to the helmet.

Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2015

This is one of Rossi’s most eyecatching Winter Test helmets.

AGV have now released this design as a Limited Edition in the Corsa helmet range. The Corsa has the performance of the Pista GP (which is the helmet model that Rossi races in) and the characteristics of a helmet for road use. And as an extra bonus, AGV have included a woolly hat in the same style that Rossi wore with each order of this limited edition helmet.

AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2012 Helmet

AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2012 Helmet

AGV K3 SV Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2012 Helmet

This is the Valentino Rossi design that he wore during the MotoGP Winter test session in 2012. The helmet is available in two colour variations, blue and black.

This is a stunning looking Valentino Rossi lid (especially the blue version), and the design has a very personal meaning for Rossi and Yamaha. After a couple of unsuccessful years at Ducati, Valentino Rossi returned to Yamaha, the team where he had felt most at home, until Jorge Lorenzo became his team-mate and tensions grew between the two riders.

The helmet features the number 46 in a prominent place at the top of the helmet and the usual Sun and Moon logos are seen on either side, but it is the rear of the helmet design that holds the most interest. A Japanese character for the word ‘Kendo’ is placed at the rear of the helmet. ‘Kendo’ is used in Japan as a word to convey a very intense and great emotion. The symbol used on this helmet design was created by Masao Furusawa’s wife. Furusawa is the chief of engineering operations at Yamaha and he was instrumental in bring Rossi to Yamaha the first time round, and it is from Furusawa that Rossi first heard of ‘Kendo’

Valentino Rossi Winter test 2012

This Winter test design was first made available as a Limited Edition in the AGV Corsa range, but now it is available in the more affordable AGV K3 SV range. The K3 SV range is ideal for any rider wanting to get a reasonably priced helmet without having to compromise on quality or replica race graphics. The K3 SV is basically the updated version of AGV’s bestselling K3 model, with the added feature of an internal sun visor.

Official Description of the AGV K3 SV Winter test helmet:

The K-3 SV was developed with the experience gained during the design process of the Pista GP, Corsa and GT Veloce. Thanks to the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEM), the technical department developed a benchmark product in terms of comfort, aerodynamics and safety. The K3SV has a wide appeal and is suitable for all riders looking for comfort and high performance characteristics.

Thanks to Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis and wind tunnel testing, the integrated ventilation system provides maximum airflow to the head (through three front vents, chin vent, side vents, and two extractors at the back of the helmet), and the aerodynamics minimize drag, lift and noise, and ensure stability even at racetrack speeds. Two shell sizes and four EPS sizes give the K3SV a generic fit that is both plush and incredibly comfortable (plus AGV’s unique solution of offering both specific MS and ML sizes).

  • 2 sizes of HIR-TH external shell (High Resistance Thermoplastic Resin)
  • Inner shell in EPS in 4 sizes
  • Shell and EPS dimensions optimised using the FEM (Finite Elements Analysis) system.
  • Ventilation system designed and optimised in a wind tunnel, comprising 4 front vents (3 at the front and one on the chin guard) and 2 rear extractors; XQRS (X-tra Quick Release System) visor mechanism. For tool-free removal and replacement of the visor in seconds.
  • Visor mechanism with PVS system (Perimetrical Visor Seal) for improved seal and protection against draughts and noise thanks to the seat for the visor edge.
  • GT2 (sizes ML-L-XL-XXL) and GT2-1 (sizes XS-SMS) visors in scratch resistant and anti-fog polycarbonate with 100% UV-ray protection
  • Integrated removable Sun Visor (ISV) with scratch-resistant visor with tool-free repla-cement system

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Double Face Helmet (Limited Edition)

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2013

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2013

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Double Face Helmet, which is now available as a limited edition.

This is one of the strangest and most inventive of Valentino Rossi’s helmet designs. It was first worn for the 2013 Winter test sessions, and it basically takes Valentino’s usual Sun and Moon helmet design (Soleluna) and flips it by 180 degrees. But that is not all, to create the full illusion of the flip, the rear of the helmet has a photo of Rossi’s face peering out of a visor, giving the impression that Rossi is both looking out the front of the helmet (through his visor) and also through the back…..watching closely those riders gaining on him.

Remember, this is a limited edition and it probably won’t come into production in one of the entry level AGV ranges (like the K3), so if you want to pick up this inventive but bizarre Rossi design then you can find the places that still have stock at the bottom of this page.

The AGV Corsa is a great helmet that basically takes the race ready features of the high-end AGV Pista range, and combines them with a more forgiving feature set and shell that is more suitable for road use.

The AGV Corsa is an aggressive looking race replica that can be used on the track, but it is ideally created for day to day street use. The shape is basically identical to the AGV Pista, and it also uses similar aerodynamics and venting syatmes that you get on the Pista.

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2013 is a stunning looking lid.

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2013 (Limited Edition)

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2013 (Limited Edition)

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2013 (Limited Edition)

This is the AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter test 2013 helmet.

This Limited Edition is a race replica of the helmet design that Rossi wore during the winter test period upon his return to Yamaha, after a difficult two years at Ducati.

This is a relatively low-key and understated design by Valentino Rossi standards, although the simplicity still makes it striking to look at. The helmet features a yellow number ’46’ placed directly at the front, with a metallic grey and black rear that features the Sun and Moon logos.

The rear of the helmet features a Japanese character representing the word ‘Kendo’. This is a Japanese phrase that is used to convey an intense emotion. It is said that Rossi first encountered the phrase when he met Masao Furusawa, the Executive Officer of Engineering Operations at Yamaha, when he joined Yamaha for the first time in 2004. The symbol seen on this design was designed by Masao Furusawa’s wife.

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi Winter Test 2013 (Limited Edition)

This Valentino Rossi replica is a little bit different to the usual ones that you see on the street, and you probably won’t see many of them out of the roads as this is being made as a limited edition on the AGV Corsa range.

The AGV Corsa is basically AGV’s street version of their top of the line Pista helmet range. Whilst the Pista is still suitable for road wear, it is primarily a top range race helmet. The Corsa takes many of the features that you will find in the Pista and incorporates them into a versatile road helmet. The Corsa shares the same shell shape, aerodynamics, ventilation and eye port improvements as the GP-Tech helmet – so you know you are getting quality.

The AGV Corsa range sits between the AGV K3 range and the AGV Pista, making it slightly more affordable than the premium AGV range. It is pretty much the replacement model for the AGV GP-Tech.

Official Description of the AGV Corsa Rossi Winter Test helmet:

The Corsa has the performance of the Pista GP and the characteristics of a helmet for road use.

The entire ventilation system was designed using computational fluid dynamic modelling and wind tunnel tests. This helmet is highly efficient at removing heat and moisture from the rider’s head.
